Roads Minister Franklin Bett takes Gen. Gier Chuang Aluong, the South Sudan Minister for Roads and bridges on a tour of the City Cabanas Interchange under construction along Mombasa road.

The partially complete Museum Hill Interchange which is part of the Thika Highway Improvement Project has been opened to traffic. The interchange is expected to decongest traffic in the City of Nairobi.

A section of the complete Maai Mahiu-Narok road. The road traverses the agriculturally rich Narok county; links up Western kenya to Nairobi and also leads to Tanzania and Maasai Mara Game Reserve.

Vision

To attain and sustain world class roads infrastructure to enhance socio-economic development.

Mission

To facilitate provision, maintenance and management of quality roads infrastructure in support of Kenya Vision 2030 apirations.

Mandate

The Ministry is charged with the responsibility of providing basic infrastructure facilities to the public. These include development, maintenance and rehabilitation of road network in the country

The Specific responsibilities are:-

  • National Roads Development Policy
  • Development, standardization and maintenance of roads
  • Materials testing and advise on usage
  • Co-ordination of the activities undertaken by the Parastatals / Authorities namely:-
    • Kenya Roads Board
    • Kenya National Highways Authority
    • Kenya Urban Roads Authority
    • Kenya Rural Roads Authority
  • Research and Training on Highways construction and Building technology.
  • Standardization of Vehicles, Plant and Equipment
  • Vehicles, Plant and Equipment Inventory
  • Registration of Engineers
  • Registration of Road Contractors
  • Maintenance of Security roads

COMMITMENT OF THE MINISTRY

  • Comply with the Approved Annual roads Work Programme;
  • Participate in construction and maintenance of roads, attend to the roads maintenance of roads, attend to the roads maintenance promptly and strive to maintain the entire road network to a motorable condition;
  • Ensure that all environmental regulations are adhered to in the implementation of all projects;
  • Promptly address emergencies that disrupt the public and restore the same within 7 days;
  • Provide appropriate road safety and educate the public on road safety;
  • Test and advice on material usage for both public and private sectors;
