Green Transport Milestone as Kenya Launches E-Mobility Policy
Presided over by Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Davis Chirchir, and attended by key national leaders and key stakeholders, Principal Secretary, Eng. Joseph Mbugua, today joined the launch of the National E-Mobility Policy at the KICC, Nairobi.
The landmark policy marks a major milestone in Kenya’s transition towards clean, sustainable, and innovative transport solutions. It provides a clear framework to guide the adoption of electric mobility, promote local innovation, reduce carbon emissions, and enhance energy efficiency across the transport sector.
Notably, the policy requires that at least 5% of parking space in new commercial developments be allocated for electric vehicle charging infrastructure, supported by a specialised off-peak electricity tariff to encourage uptake.
The Government aims to cut carbon emissions, reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels, and stimulate the growth of local electric mobility manufacturing and innovation hubs by leveraging Kenya’s renewable-energy-dominated power grid.
The launch reinforces Kenya’s position as a regional leader in climate action, sustainable transport, and green innovation.
