President Ruto Launches Major Road Projects in Western Kenya, Advancing Connectivity and Regional Development
Kakamega, 30th October 2025 — H.E. President William Ruto today flagged off a series of transformative road projects across Western Kenya, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to seamless connectivity, regional trade, and inclusive economic growth.
The President launched the upgrade of the 19-kilometre Kakamega Airstrip–Shinyalu–Chepsonoi (B12) Road, a vital corridor linking Kakamega and Nandi counties. Implemented by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), the project traverses fertile agricultural zones producing maize, sugarcane, tea, bananas, and beans. Once completed, it will ease movement, lower transport costs, and enhance access to markets, schools, and health facilities.
President Ruto also officially commissioned the 34-kilometre Turbo–Sikhendu Road in Lugari, Kakamega County. Valued at KSh 3.6 billion, this flagship project connects Kakamega, Uasin Gishu, Bungoma, and Trans-Nzoia counties, providing farmers, traders, and local enterprises with a reliable transport corridor. The road is set to stimulate rural economies, reduce travel time, and improve access to social amenities and production zones, aligning with the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
Earlier, the President presided over the launch of the 22-kilometre Malava–Samitsi–Navakholo (C785) Road, a KSh 1.63 billion project implemented by the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA). This corridor will facilitate the transport of sugarcane and other farm produce, enhance safety, and unlock new economic opportunities in Malava and Navakholo, further supporting regional trade and investment.
During the launches, President Ruto was flanked by Principal Secretary for Roads Eng. Joseph Mbugua, Prime Cabinet Secretary Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Moses Wetang’ula, Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSMEs Hon. Wycliffe Oparanya, Kakamega Governor H.E. Ferdinand Barasa, Senator Boni Khalwale, and other national and county leaders. Their presence underscored the strategic importance of these projects in opening up Kenya’s high-potential regions.
“This is about more than roads; it is about connecting people to opportunities, markets, jobs, and prosperity. Every corridor we build empowers communities, spurs trade, and drives inclusive growth,” President Ruto said.
The launches mark a bold step in the government’s ongoing mission to modernize Kenya’s road infrastructure, unlock agricultural potential, and drive sustainable development across the country’s productive regions.
