President Ruto Launches Rironi–Mau Summit Road, a Gateway to Prosperity and Transformation
Kamandura, Kiambu County, Friday 28th November, 2025: H.E President William Ruto this morning officially launched the Rironi–Mau Summit Road at Kamandura, Kiambu County, marking the first site of this landmark infrastructure project. He was joined by Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport Davis Chirchir, Principal Secretary for Roads Eng. Joseph Mbugua, and a host of National and County Government officials.
The launch covers Phase I of the Nairobi–Nakuru–Mau Summit (A8) Road and Nairobi–Maai Mahiu–Naivasha (A8 South) Road, spanning 139 km from Nairobi to Gilgil and Naivasha. The project, implemented through a Public-Private Partnership between China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) and NSSF, will be constructed over two years at a cost of USD 863 million, followed by a 28-year operation period.
President Ruto emphasized the urgency of the project:
“If we waited for the national budget, we’d have waited a lifetime. If we borrowed, we’d have increased our debt burden. If we taxed more, we’d have strained families. And if we did nothing, we would have surrendered to stagnation.”
He added, “This road is more than a highway; it is a gateway to prosperity, unity, and transformation. It demonstrates the power of smart governance in partnership with the private sector. Today, we stand at the dawn of a new era of ambition and determination—a Kenya reborn.”
The highway will cut travel time, lower vehicle operating costs, and boost safety with grade-separated interchanges, overpasses, and underpasses. Beyond local benefits, it links East Africa to the Western and Northern corridors, unlocking markets for farmers, facilitating trade across regions, and improving access to schools, health centers, and emergency services. This strategic route strengthens Kenya’s role as a key trade and transport hub in the region, driving economic growth and integration.
The project aligns with Kenya Vision 2030 and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), reinforcing the government’s commitment to inclusive growth, rural development, and social integration along this key corridor.
