Kenya’s transport network is set for a major transformation with the dualling of the 170-kilometre Rironi–Naivasha–Mau Summit road slated to begin on November 28, 2025—a landmark step for one of the busiest and most economically vital sections of the Northern Corridor.

The project is expected to drastically ease movement between Nairobi and Western Kenya, boost regional trade, and bring an end to decades of crippling traffic snarl-ups, delays, and frequent accidents that have long plagued motorists along the route.

On the same day, the government will break ground for the 58-kilometre Rironi–Maai Mahiu–Naivasha dualling, a strategic upgrade that will open new economic and logistics frontiers along a corridor that links the southern part of the country to major markets.

At State House Nairobi today, President William Ruto, accompanied by Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport Davis Chirchir, held talks with China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) President Zhang Bingman. CCCC’s subsidiary, China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), has been contracted to undertake the massive road works.

The President noted that Kenya’s rapid infrastructure momentum has been driven by strong cooperation with China, a partnership that has delivered flagship projects including the Standard Gauge Railway, the Nairobi Expressway, and an expanding network of roads nationwide.

Kenya’s development push continues to gain traction, with several major road projects currently underway through international partnerships, including the Lamu–Ijara–Garissa road, as the government accelerates efforts to modernise transport networks and unlock economic growth across the country.
