President Ruto Advances Kitui Road Infrastructure, Boosting Regional Connectivity and Economic Growth
Kitui County: 13th November, 2025: On the second day of his development tour of the Lower Eastern region, H.E. President William Samoei Ruto launched and inspected key road projects in Kitui County, reinforcing the Government’s commitment to unlocking regional economic potential.
In Kitui, President Ruto officially launched the tarmacking of the 13-kilometre Kamuwongo–Kandwia Road, part of the Mwingi–Kamuwongo–Ciangera corridor. Once complete, the road will connect the Thika–Garissa Road at Mwingi town with the Ena–Chiakariga Road, improving access to markets for local produce and stimulating regional trade.
The President also inspected the ongoing upgrade of the 33-kilometre Kibwezi–Mutomo–Kitui–Kabati–Migwani–Mbondoni Road, a strategic corridor linking Kitui and Makueni counties to Nairobi and Mombasa. Implemented by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), the project is designed to ease transport, spur trade, and enhance access to essential services.
At Ikutha, President Ruto, flanked by Deputy President H.E. Kithure Kindiki, Cabinet Secretary Hon. Davis Chirchir, and Principal Secretary Eng. Joseph Mbugua, launched phase one of the 23-kilometre Ikutha–Kanziku–Mutha (JCTN A9) road upgrade, a KSh 1.177 billion project implemented by KeRRA. The road will facilitate movement, reduce transport costs, open remote areas to trade and investment, support livestock farming, and improve access to markets and social amenities, strengthening connectivity between Kitui and neighbouring counties.
The development tour concluded in Kitui East with the launch of the 25-kilometre Chuluni–Zombe (B87) Road, implemented through KeNHA. The project aims to enhance investment opportunities, improve agricultural productivity, and boost access to markets and social services.
President Ruto reiterated that these investments are part of the Government’s deliberate strategy to accelerate road infrastructure under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), promoting equitable regional development, job creation, and seamless connectivity across Kenya.
The President was accompanied throughout the tour by Deputy President H.E. Kithure Kindiki, Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport Hon. Davis Chirchir, Principal Secretary Eng. Joseph Mbugua, and a host of national and county government leaders, who jointly underscored the Government’s commitment to delivering impactful development projects in the region.
