Mechanical and Transport Directorate
The Mechanical and Transport Directorate (MTD) is responsible for provision, maintenance and renewal of mechanical transport and Plant services. The Directorate is also responsible for standardization for vehicles, plant and equipment as well as an adviser to the Government on issues related to mechanical and automotive engineering.
Materials Testing and Research Directorate
Materials Testing and Research Directorate (MTRD) is responsible for testing and research on materials used in the road construction and the building industry to ensure quality and hence value for money. The MTRD Head Office and Central Laboratories are located in Nairobi’s Industrial area, along Machakos Rd.
Quality Assurance Directorate
The QAD was established to ensure that resources allocated for road construction, rehabilitation and maintenance are consistently applied to the purposes for which they are intended for and that the use of such resources is efficient and transparent. It was also established to introduce a system of information flow, quality assurance and control.
Kenya Institute Of Highways & Building Technology
KIHBT is a public institution vested with the mandate of training Ministry of Roads Staff and Other Government Employees, the public and private sector trainees in the various technical fields. The institute also trains other nationalities
Roads Directorate
The Roads Directorate carries out Monitoring and Evaluation of all ongoing road works project undertaken by the Road Authorities. The Directorate is also responsible for reviewing and updating manuals, standards and specifications.
